Human and animal
Fecal-oral transmission or ingestion of contaminated water. Contaminated food is a less common etiology. Person-to-person spread is common.
Averages 1-2 weeks, with a mean of 9 days[1]
Giardiasis is not associated with mortality except in rare cases of extreme dehydration, primarily in infants or malnourished children [1]
It is reported that the national giardiasis cases were 7.5, 7.6 and 7.4 per 100,000 population in 2006, 2007, and 2008[2]
